Service bowed in time for Beijing Olympics

BRUSSELS — Gallic paybox Canal Plus began high definition broadcasts on Gaul’s digital terrestrial network on Aug. 8

Claiming a first in France, the service bowed in time for the Beijing Olympics with 18 hours of HD broadcasting, plus a key national soccer match.

The current offer is 32 hours a week of programming, including films and series such as “Spider-Man 3″ and “Desperate Housewives.” It aims to make all its content available in HD by 2012.
