'Bill', 'SOKO' detectives join for double episode
German and British TV cops are about to team up.
The London detectives of ITV’s hit skein “The Bill” are joining forces with the Teutonic Kommissars of ZDF’s “SOKO Leipzig” for a special double-episode story arc.
Potsdam-based UFA Fernsehproduktion, which produces “SOKO Leipzig,” and TalkbackThames, maker of “The Bill,” are both subsidiaries of FremantleMedia, the production division of pan-European TV broadcasting giant RTL Group, making the joint production possible.
“We see a great opportunity in bringing together the popular investigative teams of ‘SOKO Leipzig’ and ‘The Bill’ to solve an international case,” said UFA producer Joerg Winger.
Added Talkback’s Johnathan Young, “This is new territory for all of us, but we are certain that we’re creating something very special.”
The story follows Leipzig Hauptkommissar Hajo Trautzschke as he travels with his partner to London to investigate the kidnapping of his goddaughter and ends up teaming up with “The Bill’s” Detective Chief Inspector Jack Meadows and his department. Together, the Euro cops follow the trail of the kidnappers back to Germany.
Starring in the two-parter are “The Bill’s” regular cast, Simon Rouse, Chris Simmons, Bruce Byron and Cat Simmons, and “SOKO Leipzig’s” Andreas Schmidt-Schaller, Marco Girnth, Melanie Marschke and Tyron Ricketts.
