ABC anchor tapped for environmental newscast

Discovery Communications has announced that ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff will host a weekly newscast on the environment on Discovery’s forthcoming eco-lifestyle network.

Planet Green, which Discovery describes as a “global, cross-company initiative with a commitment to document, preserve and celebrate the planet, including the first-ever 24-hour eco-lifestyle television network,” will debut June 4.

The as-yet-unnamed series Woodruff will anchor is set for a July bow. It will address subjects including climate impact, environmental policy, political debate and world events. Net will sport a studio-based, roundtable format geared toward “discussions, feature stories and lively debates,” according to Discovery.

ABC News will produce the weekly series for Planet Green.

Woodward was seriously wounded in January 2006 while covering the Iraq war. Following a year of recovery, he returned to ABC, where he continues to do reporting.
