BBC launching Spanish channel

U.S. to premiere CBeebies network for kids

BBC Worldwide will bow its first Spanish-language channel in the U.S., it announced on Wednesday.

CBeebies, dedicated to preschoolers, will be available through Dish Network on its DishLatino and DishMexico packages.

The channel will be a live feed of BBC Worldwide’s Latin American version of CBeebies, which launched in Mexico in August.

BBC Worldwide Channels managing director Darren Childs called the move into the U.S. Hispanic market “a momentous achievement in this hugely competitive territory. It means that we’re able to reach out to millions of Americans for whom Spanish is their first language.”

Dish is available in 13.78 million homes in the U.S.

CBeebies has also launched in Africa, Australia, Poland, India and across Asia in the last 12 months.
