BUENOS AIRES — An entertainment program about mothers became the focus of a family drama in Argentina that boosted ratings at Artear-Canal 13.
The host of “La mama del ano” (Mother of the Year), telenovela actress Andrea del Boca (“Wild Child”), used the Endemol program on Wednesday to launch a public search for her daughter.
Del Boca’s ex-husband, businessman Ricardo Biasotti, father of the 7-year-old, had taken the girl with him on holiday to the coast but del Boca had not been able to contact them for five days.
“I need to find my daughter. I don’t know where she is,” Del Boca said during the 4 p.m. program.
The case gained wide press coverage and “Mother” surged to its highest ratings of the season on Thursday as it turned from an entertainment program into a talk show about the child’s alleged disappearance.
It won its time slot with 10 rating points, up from an 8.1 average for the month.
Biasotti’s lawyers criticized Del Boca’s methods, saying she created a media circus to attack their client.
Del Boca finally spoke with her daughter late Thursday and returned to hosting “Mother” on Friday.
