HONG KONG — The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Tuesday elected Yoshinori Imai as its president for the next three years.
Imai, who beat Abdolali Aliaskari of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting to the job, is VP of Japanese pubcaster NHK.
The ABU had been without a president since the beginning of the year when the then NHK president Genichi Hashimoto resigned.
Imai, a newsman who started his TV career at NHK 40 years ago, was a senior correspondent in Washington DC, New York and London. Recently, he has been active as a member of the World Electronic Media Forum and the Internet Governance Forum.
