It wasn’t just the film’s title that lured Mick Jagger to the Loews 19th Street theater Thursday for the premiere of “The Women.”
As producer on the pic with his Jagged Films, the Rolling Stone was on hand to help tub-thump alongside Meg Ryan, Eva Mendes, Bette Midler and Jada Pinkett Smith.
After the screening, Jagger and pic’s leading ladies celebrated at the Gramercy Park Hotel Roof Club where helmer Diane English discussed the challenges of getting the film made.
“It was a 14-year labor of love,” she said, adding that it took some cost-cutting to get the project to the bigscreen. “It got off the ground by going from a studio picture to an independent film and by lowering the budget $40 million to $16½ million. Everybody cut their fees and none of the producers were paid. We all deferred our money.”
