'Sisterhood' party hearty at sequel's bash
Squeals, cheers and frantic cell phone texting outside the Ziegfeld Theater marked the arrival of the young stars of “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2” for the pic’s Gotham premiere on Monday.
It was a tween dream come true as Blake Lively, America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn made their way down the red carpet accompanied by Lively’s “Gossip Girl” co-stars Ed Westwick, Chace Crawford and Leighton Meester.
Although the first pic, released in 2005 and based on the Ann Brashares book series, wasn’t a monster hit, Warner Bros. Pictures and Alcon Entertainment decided to make a sequel after the books’ loyal built-in aud made DVDs fly off the shelves and the careers of the pic’s stars took off with TV projects, like “Gossip Girl” and “Ugly Betty.”
“Maybe financially this wasn’t a brilliant idea,” said producer Kira Davis. “But it was more of an emotional decision.”
