While Sean Penn and his jury were enjoying their first official dinner of the Cannes film fest at the Palme d’Or restaurant, Variety sneaked into the 2-Michelin-star kitchen to savor the same gastronomical fare and observe the kitchen drama orchestrated by chef Christian Sinicropi.
When asked about his emotions on having Penn in the room, Sinicropi nonchalantly exclaimed, “I’m not nervous at all!”
In full-speed mode, the kitchen looked like a well-oiled machine, giving the behind-the-scene a “Ratatouille” feel to it — with the staff on the prow of the chef’s minute-byminute instructions.
“Having the jury here is a really big deal for us and we make a lot of folks on la Croisette jealous,” Sinicropi added.
For the occasion, the chef prepared a meat-free diner for the health-conscious Hollywood guests — Penn and Natalie Portman, which featured bay prawns with olives and turbot with a red wine sauce.
