The subject matter was serious but the mood was light on Tuesday as NBC U cable maven Bonnie Hammer was feted with the Anti-Defamation League’s Humanitarian Award at the org’s annual showbiz fund-raiser, held at the BevHills Hotel.
After the tribute reel unspooled, Hammer joked that it was a chronicle of “the life, the times and the hair of Bonnie Hammer.”
Among the execs lending support to “Bonnie ‘Boom Boom’ Hammer,” as she was dubbed by thesp Dule Hill, who co-emceed the night with his “Psych” co-star James Roday, were Universal TV Group chief Jeff Gaspin, U co-chairman David Linde, USA Network’s Jeff Wachtel, Sci Fi Channel’s Mark Stern and DreamWorks TV’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.
Universal Studios prexy Ron Meyer, who co-chaired the dinner with NBC U boss Jeff Zucker, looked no worse for wear despite two days of fire after Sunday’s blaze. The studio is trying to make the most out of the dramatic charred visuals left behind until the clean-up process is completed. “We’re taking the tours past it,” Meyer quipped.
