Lara named exec VP of programming

Azteca America has tapped former Univision exec Alberto Santini Lara as exec VP, programming.

Shuttling between Mexico City and Los Angeles, Santini Lara will be the senior programming link between Azteca America and parent company TV Azteca, Mexico’s No. 2 web. He replaces Harry Abraham, who ankled in July.

Santini Lara will oversee strategic planning, development and acquisition, partnerships with producers, production companies and filmmakers. He will also supervise all on-air promotions and Mexican-based productions.

He reports directly to Azteca America CEO Adrian Steckel in Los Angeles.

Santini Lara was with U.S. Hispanic media giant Univision from 1999-2007 and held positions in programming, strategic planning and promotions at Univision Television Group.

He is credited with developing the Latino version of “Desperate Housewives” (Amas de casa desesperadas) and “Selena Live.”
