TBS, which has had success with three annual “The Comedy Festival” primetime specials, has added a second yearly comedy event, “Just for Laughs: A Very Funny Festival.”
Ellen DeGeneres will return as host of “Comedy Festival.” She’ll also emcee the “Just for Laughs” spec, which kicks off in Chicago during summer 2009 as the culmination of a five-day event.
The fourth edition of “The Comedy Festival” takes place in Las Vegas in November.
Telepictures Prods. is producing the two primetime specials for TBS, CAA is brokering the Chicago festival, and the concert promoter AEG Live continues to put together the Las Vegas fest.
“These events are a perfect opportunity for TBS to showcase some of the best talents in the comedy industry,” said Steve Koonin , president of Turner Entertainment Networks.
TBS and Telepictures engineered the two separate deals with Gilbert Rozon, president of Just for Laughs, the Montreal-based org that just celebrated the 25th anni of its comedy fest in that city, and John Meglen, president of Concerts West/AEH Live.
