‘Sons of Anarchy’ to ride again on FX

Network orders second season of biker drama

FX’s new biker-gang drama “Sons of Anarchy” will ride on for a second season.

The cabler has ordered 13 new episodes of the series, which the network said has been its most successful frosh 18-49 draw since “Rescue Me” launched in 2005.

Series, which bowed Sept. 3, is averaging a cumulative aud of 3.5 million viewers in the 18-49 demo across its four weekly runs. Series is averaging about 1.35 million viewers in 18-49 and 2.1 million total viewers for its four premiere runs. Original episodes debut Wednesdays at 10 p.m.

“We had a premiere that was probably lower than people had hoped for — perhaps that was because we were going against the Republican National Convention,” said series creator and exec producer Kurt Sutter. “But the good news is new shows traditionally drop off in ratings, but we’ve actually picked up viewers.”

“Sons of Anarchy” stars Ron Perlman as the leader of the eponymous motorcycle club, a gun-running group of bad boys who control the fictional town of Charming, Calif. Katey Sagal co-stars as Perlman’s wife and all-around biker matriarch. Charlie Hunnam plays Sagal’s son and the gang’s No. 2.

Series is produced by Fox 21 and FX Prods. John Linson and Art Linson also serve as exec producers.
