Chef kicks off unit with Optomen Television
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is launching his own shingle.
One Potato Two Potato will be a joint venture with U.K. production partner Optomen Television, which will produce all of the “Hell’s Kitchen” star’s new TV output, as well as exploit his programs and formats internationally. It will also control publishing and other ancillary rights arising from the shows.
“Optomen takes my passionate and perfectionist approach to cooking and restaurants and applies it to television, so we’re a great fit,” said Ramsay, who also has a four-year contract with Blighty’s Channel 4.
One Potato Two Potato has already secured its first major U.K. commission from Channel 4. Seven-part series “Cookalong Live,” based on the one-off “Cookalong” event that aired in January, will launch on the channel this fall; a U.S. version is reportedly in the works.
In the U.S., Optomen has already co-produced two seasons of “Kitchen Nightmares” for Fox, while Granada America has produced five seasons of “Hell’s Kitchen” for Fox. Those series will be unaffected by the new venture. Optomen has worked with Ramsay since 2004, when the first series of “Kitchen Nightmares” launched on Channel 4. The new deal will see him working exclusively with Optomen for seven years.
