MGM has hired Luke Ryan as VP of theatrical production.
He will oversee the production and development of MGM’s bigscreen projects. Ryan will also jump into a number of priority projects for the studio that include “Cabin in the Woods,” “RoboCop,” “Red Dawn” and “Hot Tub Time Machine.”
Newest move plus a number of other recent hires at MGM signal the studio’s growing commitment to developing and producing films rather than merely distributing other producers’ fare.
Under the direction of Mary Parent, chair of the worldwide motion picture group, MGM has begun to revamp its marketing department. Michael Vollman was recently hired for dual posts as MGM exec veep and president of marketing for United Artists, and the Lion named Pam Silverstein director of development.
Ryan joins MGM after serving for the past two years as veepee of MTV Films, where his projects included “Friday the 13th.” From 2000-06, he was an executive at New Line.
