Duo team to find young, unknown stars

LONDON — MBC, the Middle East’s most popular satcaster, is teaming with Oprah Winfrey on her latest initiative to find the world’s smartest and most talented kids.

MBC4, the Arab TV net’s English-language general entertainment channel, has launched its own online drive to encourage Arab youths to submit their homevideos and win the chance to be featured on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

“Given the significant growth of the global entertainment industry, particularly in Web-based communities, MBC4 seized this grand global opportunity to incite children from the entire Arab world to expose and materialize their hidden talents,” said Mazen Hayek, MBC’s group director of marketing, PR and commercial.

MBC4 airs “Oprah” throughout the Arab world. The yakker remains one of the net’s enduring ratings winners, particularly in the Gulf and Saudi Arabia, where it is believed to be a favorite with femme auds.

Earlier this year, Winfrey put out a call to parents worldwide to send videos of their talented kids for possible selection on Oprah.com and upcoming episodes of her show. MBC4 will air the subsequent shows in the hope of inspiring Arab youth to participate further.
