BERLIN — Katja Pichler, corporate spokesperson of pan-European broadcasting group ProSiebenSat.1, died in a mountaineering accident Saturday. She was 45.
The avid climber slipped and fell from a 300-foot precipice in Austria’s Dachstein mountains, succumbing to her injuries before the arrival of a rescue helicopter.
“I find it impossible to grasp this loss,” said ProSiebenSat.1 CEO Guillaume de Posch. “Katja was one of the most accomplished managers in our business. She died like she lived: going from peak to peak.”
Pichler had served as the group’s spokesperson since 2003, after having worked in a similar position in ProSiebenSat.1’s marketing division SevenOne Media.
Before joining the broadcaster, Pichler was deputy editor-in-chief of trade magazine Media & Marketing and also worked as a journalist for trade publications Medien Bulletin and W & V Werben und Verkaufen.
Julian Geist, head of corporate communications, will take over Pichler’s duties until a successor has been found.
Pichler leaves a husband, Johannes Schmitz.
