Exec helped nurture 'Strictly Come Dancing'
LONDON — ITV, the U.K.’s biggest private terrestrial web, has tapped the BBC exec credited with nurturing the original version of global hit “Strictly Come Dancing” — known in the U.S. as “Dancing With the Stars.”
Elaine Bedell, who will be ITV’s director of entertainment and comedy, also helped mastermind the success of motoring skein “Top Gear,” and is regarded as one of British TV’s most talented commissioning executives.
Bedell inherits a portfolio of shows that includes most of the network’s biggest properties, notably reality talent program “The X Factor.”
Bedell will report to ITV’s director of TV Peter Fincham, who is a former colleague of Bedell’s at the Beeb.
Fincham said his latest recruit had “embraced the challenge of commissioning across a range of platforms to reach new and elusive viewers beyond the traditional TV audiences, something we are absolutely committed to at ITV.”
