LONDON — BBC Worldwide has lured veteran sales exec Tim Mutimer away from rival distrib Granada Intl. to head up its European TV sales operation.
Currently director of sales at Granada Intl., the sales arm of ITV, Mutimer will join BBC Worldwide this summer in the newly created role of senior VP global TV sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Reporting to Steve Macallister, m.d. of global TV sales, Mutimer will head up a sales force of 65 staff and will oversee program sales across all rights windows in the region, including television, digital platforms and DVD.
“EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) is the cornerstone of our distribution business and critical to our global growth, with many long standing relationships across the region in program sales, format sales and co-production,” said Macallister.
Last year, Worldwide generated TV sales of £112.3 million ($222 million) in Europe, up from $193 million in 2006.
Mutimer has been at Granada Intl. for the past eight years, and is the latest in a number of key execs to leave the distrib. Long serving managing director Nadine Nohr recently announced her decision to step down, while head of factual Mark Reynolds jumped ship to BBC Worldwide last year.
Last month, ITV announced that it was merging Granada Intl. with its merchandizing unit Granada Ventures. The new business will be led by Peter Iacono, president and m.d. of ITV Worldwide, who joined ITV from Sony Pictures in the U.S. earlier this year.
