Exec leaves less than two weeks into the job
HONG KONG — Ricky Wong Wai-kay, the new broom at Asia Television, Hong Kong’s number two commercial TV broadcaster, has swept out of office after less than two weeks in the job.Wong, a colorful entrepreneur who was appointed as ATV CEO while controversially still holding on to his job as chairman and executive director of City Telecom, resigned Monday. Personality clashes with Linus Cheung, who was appointed exec chairman at the same time as Wong’s hire, appear to be the cause of Wong’s ankling. Cheung and Wong, telecoms executives from different generations, were drafted by the company to stem losses and give the broadcaster a new direction after CEO Louis Page quit a year into his contract (Variety, Dec. 5, 2008.) Their appointment was followed by the resignation of three more senior execs; Dewy Ip, executive vice-president, Peter Kwan, senior VP for news and public affairs, and Howard Ho, senior VP for engineering. In a statement, Cheung paid tribute to Wong’s integrity and talent.
