CBS picks up 'Tower,' 'Harper's'
ABC has taken over the comedy pilot “This Might Hurt,” while CBS has picked up drama presentations “Tower” and “Harper’s Island.”All three greenlights were announced Friday. In the case of “This Might Hurt,” the medical comedy created by Jason Winer was originally developed at Fox last fall, pre-strike. That net ultimately decided not to go forward with it, allowing studio 20th Century Fox TV to shop it elsewhere. ABC then signed on to the show, which will also be helmed by Winer. “This Might Hurt” revolves around an old-fashioned middle-aged pediatrician who shares his office with his internist son and a cynical OB-GYN. Single-camera project will contain some improvised elements. Winer, who plans to shoot the laffer next month, will exec produce with Guy Walks Into a Bar’s Matthew Weinberg and Todd Komarnicki. As for “Tower,” project follows reporters in Chicago who not only report breaking news but investigate and solve those mysteries. Meredith Stiehm (“Cold Case”) wrote and will exec produce the drama, which comes from CBS Paramount. CBS Par is also behind the horror entry “Harper’s Island,” which comes from scribe Ari Schlossberg (“Hide & Seek”) and helmer Jon Turteltaub (“National Treasure”). Turteltaub, who exec produces “Jericho” for the Eye, will exec produce and direct “Harper’s Island” as well. Schlossberg will co-exec produce, as will Karim Zreik and Dan Shotz. Drama follows a group of pals as they meet up on an island near Seattle for a wedding. The plot unfolds over the course of a season as characters are bumped off one by one.
