A. Smith & Co. boosts exec ranks

Rini, Miller named VPs of development

Busy with a production slate of seven returning nonfiction series and with a number of new skeins in development, A. Smith & Co. has announced a bolstering and restructuring to its production and development executive ranks.

Credited for her contributions on the A. Smith-produced “I Survived a Japanese Game Show” for ABC, Christmas Rini has been upped to VP of development.

She’ll be joined in that capacity by Matt Miller, who has also been hired on as VP of development, having worked with A. Smith in the past on Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen.”

Rini and Miller will work with David Schiff, who has held the title of VP of production and development at the company since 2006. All three report to company founder and CEO Arthur Smith and prexy Kent Weed.

Besides “Japanese Game Show” and “Hell’s Kitchen,” A. Smith also has renewals for “Kitchen Nightmares” for Fox, “Trading Spaces” for TLC and “American Gangster” for BET. Upcoming skeins on the company’s slate include “Conspiracy Theory With Jesse Ventura” for TruTV and syndie courtshow “Tough Justice With Judge Marian Shelton.”

“We’re full, and we needed to change something to keep things going,” Smith said. “What often happens is you get too busy to continue developing, and that’s not what we want to do.”
