New a.d. at French network insists on diversity
Andre Beraud, the new artistic director for fiction at Gallic private network TF1, reckons the channel is showing too many police dramas such as “CSI: Miami” — despite the show’s ratings success.
Beraud wants more diversity in the net’s fiction programming.
Exec, a former producer of drama series and TV films at Montreal-based Cirrus Communications, moved to TF1 in March.
Without offering specifics, he told daily paper Le Parisien in a Wednesday report that pilots for five drama series are in development for the fall season.
TF1’s May audience dropped 4.2% year on year. It has been especially hurt by the poor performances of many French drama series, while American skeins, including “CSI: Miami” and medical drama “House,” are consistent ratings winners.
