Marketing agency taps former NBC U exec
Entertainment marketing agency Meteor Worldwide has tapped former NBC Universal exec Syd Smith as its group CEO.
The newly created post puts Smith in charge of Meteor, its production shingle White Flower Entertainment and mobile marketing company Pliq.
She will integrate the brand marketing functions of the three ventures, as well as build a global sales force and oversee the company’s expansion into Europe.
Smith reports to Meteor’s managing partners, Dieter Abt and Ben Blanco.
In 2005, she worked closely with Abt and Blanco on a multimillion-dollar sponsorship deal between Volkswagen and NBC Universal.
Smith spent the past 10 years as senior VP-head of sales at U, brokering pacts with promotional partners including Coca-Cola, Xerox, Nestle Waters, Kodak and Gatorade for the company’s theatrical, homevid and theme park divisions.
She also oversaw promotional marketing campaigns for the pics “King Kong,” “The Bourne Ultimatum,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Curious George” and “Mamma Mia!”
Before that, she developed brand plans for “Jurassic Park,” Marvel, Dr. Seuss and Universal’s classic monsters lineup as VP of corporate marketing and synergy, and spent five years in strategic marketing and brand management for U’s parks and resorts.
Meteor was founded in 2005 to handle Volkswagen’s entertainment efforts in Hollywood.
The company’s services include product integration, corporate alliances, celebrity seeding, events and sponsorships and content production. It has a strategic alliance with B6 Integrated Entertainment, a unit of Havas-owned media network MPG, whose clients include Nike, Dannon, Reckitt Benckiser, PSA and France Telecom.
