Lifetime is set to unleash “Maneater,” a four-hour adaptation of a bestseller from “Starter Wife” mastermind Gigi Levangie Grazer that will star Sarah Chalke.
Chalke will play a well-to-do social climber approaching her 32nd birthday — midlife in Hollywood socialite years — and eagerly looking for a husband.
Mini is produced by Sony Pictures Television, with Suzanne Martin handling the adaptation and Timothy Busfield directing.
In addition to penning the adaptation, Martin will serve as exec producer, along with Grazer and Stephanie Davis for 3 Arts Entertainment.
According to new Lifetime exec VP of entertainment JoAnn Alfano, mini will go into production in February with an early-summer premiere date targeted.
Prior to airdate, Alfano said the project will be supported with a promo campaign similar in scope to USA’s ambitious “Starter Wife” launch in 2007.
“You won’t miss it,” Alfano said. “We’re going to put all our guns behind it. We think this is a project that warrants that.”
The heavily promoted six-hour “Starter Wife” mini on USA Network drew 5.4 million viewers for its first two-hour installment in May 2007. It subsequently cooled, averaging 3.4 million viewers over the next four one-hour segments.
USA has since adapted “The Starter Wife” into an original series.
