Comedian Eric Toms to host reality recap show
Fox Reality Channel is prepping a new signature weekly skein, “Reality Binge,” set to launch this summer.
“Reality Binge” fills the void left by the cancellation of “Reality Remix,” which covered the alternative series world with both a daily strip and weekly roundup seg. “Binge” bows Thursday, July 10, at 7 p.m.
“Remix” will air its final episode May 22.
Where “Remix” took a slightly more serious approach to reality TV — recapping episodes and interviewing reality celebs (although, granted, through the cynical eye of host Kennedy), Fox Reality prexy David Lyle said “Binge” will take a more irreverent tack.
“It’s sad to see old ‘Remix’ go, but we wanted to take a different approach,” Lyle said. “This is taking a cynical look at the most out-of-control, out-of-the-box, out-of-their-mind minutes of reality TV, and celebrating them in all their glory.”
Weller/Grossman Prods. is behind the show, which will be hosted by comedian Eric Toms. Hourlong will feature clip packages, original sketches and comedy segments, among other elements.
“We see ‘Reality Binge’ as the most appetizing way to keep up with the world of reality shows,” said exec producer Robb Weller.
Weller/Grossman’s credits include Discovery Health’s “Strictly Dr. Drew” and Food Network’s “BBQ America With Bobby Flay.”
“Reality Remix” launched in fall 2005, just months after the channel bowed. Entertainment show also spawned Fox Reality’s signature, tongue-in-cheek kudofest, the Reality Remix Really Awards.
Fox Reality original fare also includes “American Idol Extra” and “Paradise Hotel 2.”
