Worldwide division beefs up team
LONDON — Disney Channels Worldwide is beefing up its European management team to help spearhead expansion across the continent.
Six new appointments have been made. They include seasoned Disney Channel topper Michael Cairns who returns to the U.K. as vice president and general manager, Disney Channels UK and Ireland,
Lars Wagner joins in the new role of vice president and general manager, Disney Channel Germany, Switzerland and Austria, while Helene Etzi is upped to vice president and general manager, Disney Channel France.
They will report to John Hardie, executive vice president and managing director, Disney Channels Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
He said: “These executives bring experience, skill and leadership to the job as Disney’s kids’ TV business continues to expand across the region.”
The restructuring follows Disney Channel move from premium to basic distribution across Europe, which the company claims has increased the number of households from 14 million to 32 million.
Move follows Thursday’s announcement that the Mouse House has created a European super group for program, channel distribution and new media deals run by Tom Toumazis.
