Network exec will also oversee Bio Channel
Bob DeBitetto, exec VP-general manager of A&E, has landed the top job of prexy-g.m.
Also in DeBitetto’s portfolio as president and general manager are the Bio Channel and the Crime & Investigation Network, a web A&E distributes internationally. He’ll also oversee documentary unit A&E IndieFilms.
DeBitetto joined A&E in January 2003 as senior VP of programming. Since then, he has helped A&E to lower the age of the network by close to 20 years, said Abby Raven, president-CEO of the A&E TV Networks, which include the History Channel. A&E now regularly finishes among the 10 highest-rated cable networks in total viewers and in its demo target of adults 25-54.
A&E has a wide program mix that encompasses scripted originals, including last month’s miniseries “The Andromeda Strain”; long-running reality series including “Intervention,” “Dog the Bounty Hunter” and “Gene Simmons Family Jewels”; and off-network shows including “CSI: Miami” and “The Sopranos.” DeBitetto’s strength, Raven said, is that he’s a skilled executive in managing all three areas.
Before A&E, DeBitetto served for seven years as an executive for Turner Broadcasting.
