NBC Entertainment co-topper Ben Silverman has joined the board of the Peacock Equity Fund, the joint venture between NBC Universal and GE Capital.
The $250 million fund, launched in April 2007, targets media investment opportunities. It has offices in Gotham, London and Singapore.
The Peacock has invested, generally a few million at a time, in developing technologies, platforms and business models that fit with NBC U and can grow. Capital has gone into areas including advertising services, digital content and communities, and wireless and international platforms.
Silverman’s entrepreneurial background, specifically his steering of indie producer and distrib Reveille, was a factor in his selection.
In addition to Silverman and Michael Chen, prexy and chief exec of GE Capital’s media, communications and entertainment business, the board also includes execs such as Lynn Calpeter, chief financial officer of NBC U, and John Eck, prexy of NBC TV Network and Media Works.
