As NBC mops up the remnants of this week’s executive bloodbath, attention is now turning to possible changes at ABC Studios — and the fate of studio chief Mark Pedowitz.
With Pedowitz’s contract up in February, talk has once again heated up that Pedowitz may move on to another job within the Disney empire.
That would open the possibility of Disney moving the studio under the oversight of ABC Entertainment prexy Steve McPherson — a shift the exec was said to have pushed for during his own recent contract reup.
It’s unclear whether ABC would merge development operations, such as what NBC did this week in creating a single comedy and drama team that oversees both network and studio programming.
But moving the studio under McPherson would rep a return to what Disney engineered in 1999, when ABC merged Touchstone TV under then-ABC Entertainment TV Group co-chairmen Stu Bloomberg and Lloyd Braun. McPherson was given studio oversight and eventually worked his way up to Touchstone TV prexy. When he took over ABC Entertainment, the studio once again separated into its own entity. TV Week first reported the ABC Studios rumors on Tuesday.
