Intl. Indian Film Academy hands out prizes
At the Intl. Indian Film Academy kudos on June 8, Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan asked everyone to make India a little cooler. He was trying to deliver an environmentally friendly message, but with two former Miss Worlds in attendance, 500 stars flown in from Mumbai and tickets costing up to $3,000, there was no chance the show was going to be anything less than glitzy, noisy — and hot.The Bollywood celebration provided plenty of over-the-top moments, including presenters Boman Irani and Reitesh Deshmukh arriving on stage via elephant, and thesp Akshay Kumar flying over the 2,000 guests on a wire-guided skateboard.
Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone took home the best newcomer awards for their roles, respectively in “Saawariya” and “Om Shanti Om,” while the biggest cheers went to veteran actress Mumtaz, helmer Shyam Benegal and composer A.R. Rahman. Other stars attending included Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Govinda.
