Steven Melrose, the former marketing consultant who manages the Crystal Method and Sam Sparro, has joined EMI as vice president, A&R Labels. He will be based in Los Angeles.
Melrose has been an A&R consultant to labels such as Atlantic and Island and co-founded the independent label City of Angels, where he signed the Crystal Method and then entered into a deal for the band with Geffen’s Outpost Recordings. He also managed Giant Drag, Eastern Conference Champions and the Shys.
He is leaving his job at Leftwing, a management and publishing company that also runs the label Retone Records. Jesse Rogue will take over the day-to-day management of Sparro, and Tony Toro will handle the company’s developing acts.
