Michael G. Riley has rocketed to the top of the Radio Disney charts.
Riley is No. 1 with a bullet, jumping to Radio Disney as senior VP-general manager. Exec replaces longtime Radio Disney topper Jill Casagrande, who’s returning to her hometown of Cincinnati for personal reasons.
A Turner Broadcasting vet, Riley will move to Radio Disney’s Burbank HQ and report to Disney Channel Worldwide prexy Rich Ross.
“Michael is a strong, creative and well-regarded professional with a solid background in business management, strategic brand marketing and advertising across international enterprises,” Ross said. “His appointment marks an important step in our long-term commitment to further build Radio Disney in the marketplace.”
Radio Disney is broadcast over 50 radio stations and is available via XM and Sirius satellite radio. The program service is also streamed on RadioDisney.com and via the iTunes radio tuner.
Riley will oversee the network’s strategic management, as well as its 42 owned radio stations (which were not a part of Citadel Broadcasting’s merger with ABC Radio). Programming, distribution, online and marketing will report to him.
Riley was most recently senior VP-general manager of Turner Broadcasting System, Europe, Middle East and Africa. He worked on various functions for Turner brands such as CNN, Cartoon Network, TNT, TCM and Adult Swim. He first joined Turner in 1997.
According to the company, Radio Disney reaches 97% of the country. The kid-targeted network plays a mix of tracks from contemporary artists such as Alicia Keyes, Chris Brown, Natasha Bedingfield and Daughtry; Disney artists such as Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers also get heavy play.
Radio Disney has helped promote releases from the Disney Music Group’s labels and is seen as a synergistic partner with the Disney Channel. Network has been a part of the Disney-ABC TV Group portfolio since July 2006.
