Clients include Neil Young, Iggy Pop

With an eye to expanding its rock music roster and international scope, ICM has acquired the concert booking agency M.V.O.

Marsha Vlasic, who founded and owned M.V.O., will join ICM as senior VP, concerts, overseeing a newly formed contemporary rock division. Vlasic is based in the agency’s New York offices and will report to concerts division head Steve Levine.

Vlasic worked at ICM 20 years ago, leaving the agency to form her company. At M.V.O., she pioneered music festival packaging, creating Ozzfest and H.O.R.D.E. Vlasic also organized Moby’s Area One and Area Two tours.

Move delivers the tenpercentery a roster that includes Neil Young, Muse, Elvis Costello, Iggy Pop, the Strokes and Van Morrison, acts with healthy international appeal. It’s an area ICM’s concert division has not developed to the same extent as its urban offerings.

“Our rock business didn’t have the same footprint that other agencies have,” ICM prexy Chris Silbermann said. “There’s a great need for her. She’s a leading agent in the rock ‘n’ roll business. She’s a real entrepreneur and good mentor, and through her we’ll be able to grow some great talent agents.”

A year and a half ago, ICM expanded into urban music and has seen significant growth from Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo and Sean Kingston, plus comedians Chris Rock and Katt Williams.

Silbermann said international tours and branding have been targeted as growth areas for the rock ‘n’ roll roster, which will be a combination of established and younger acts. Agency signed Low vs. Diamond last week and is exploring opening act options for the band on arena tours.
