Hey, New York, the Iraq war is over!
Anti-corporate practical jokers the Yes Men, subject of a 2004 doc of the same name, joined last week with Improv Everywhere and antiwar orgs to publish and distribute a fake copy of the New York Times that sported the all-caps headline “Iraq War Ends.” Inside, faux ads apologize for questionable corporate practices.
Volunteers even landed streetside interviews and posted them on a mockup of the Times’ website, including one with thesp Lili Taylor, who said she thought the Times “should take the prank.”
The participants should hope they do. The fake Times flagrantly appropriates not just the paper’s logos and insignia but those of all the advertisers.
