WETA enters replica arms trade

Vintage-looking sci-fi firearms are hot sellers

This gun’s for hire — and purchase.

New Zealand-based WETA, the effects studio known for its work on “The Lord of the Rings” films, has gotten into the prop replica business, selling vintage-looking sci-fi firearms for $690 a pop to fans worldwide.

The thing is, the blasters don’t come from any movie. WETA’s Greg Broadmore just likes designing ray guns.

So blame him next time you’re staring down the barrel of a ManMelter 3600ZX (ammunition neither included nor sold separately).
