Arthouse chain to ban salty snack in Norwich

Popcorn has been an intrinsic part of going to the movies for decades. But that could all be changing in Blighty.

Picturehouse, the U.K.’s biggest arthouse circuit, is introducing popcorn-free screenings.

Following customer feedback objecting to the smell and noise, the chain will try out popcorn-free showings at its Norwich theater in September. If the test is a hit, the exhib may banish the salty snacks entirely.

The expanding Everyman chain is also mulling a ban.
