In a move sure to resonate across preschool playgrounds everywhere, the new Yellow Wiggle debuts on American shores this week.
Sam Moran joined the kiddie-targeted Australian megagroup “The Wiggles” in 2006, but the first episodes featuring him have just been scheduled on the Disney Channel in the U.S.
Moran replaced original Yellow Wiggle Greg Page, who retired due to a health problem.
The transition wasn’t taken lightly: “The Wiggles” is big biz, with the TV show, live touring, merchandising and DVDs making the franchise one of the biggest to come out of Australia. Per the New York Times, the group made $40 million in 2005 alone.
Moran served as an understudy to Page, so he already knew the group’s canon — from “Hot Potato” to “Big Red Car.”
“He’s done amazingly well,” the Red Wiggle — Murray Cook — recently told the San Diego Citybeat. “We’ve never felt like we had to carry him or anything.”
