Actor prefers Italian sparkler to champagne

George Clooney certainly knows how to win friends and influence people in Italy, his second home.

Last week at Rome’s swanky Hotel Hassler, “Il Divo Americano,” as the Italo press calls him, asked for a glass of Prosecco, the modest, homegrown fizz. The surprised barman asked if he really meant a glass of its grander French rival, champagne. 

“No. I prefer sparklers made in Italy,” Clooney said with a smile.
