Trio falls for ‘House of Blue Leaves’

Kaczmarek, Burton, Pankow to star in show

Jane Kaczmarek, Kate Burton and John Pankow will top the cast of “The House of Blue Leaves,” the first show to play in L.A.’s newly renovated Mark Taper Forum.

Pankow (“Mad About You”) plays zookeeper and frustrated songwriter Artie in John Guare’s 1971 comedy, set during the pope’s visit to Gotham in 1965. Burton (“Grey’s Anatomy”) co-stars as wife Bananas and Kaczmarek (“Malcolm in the Middle”) portrays mistress Bunny.

Other thesps in the cast include Mia Barron (“Becky Shaw”), Diedrich Bader and Angela Goethals. Nicholas Martin, a.d. of the Williamstown Theater Festival, directs.

Production will be the inaugural offering at the Taper, newly reopened after a year of renovations. Show begins previews Aug. 30 ahead of a Sept. 14 opening.
