A 1930s play and a new musical comprise the 2008-09 season for Off Broadway’s Transport Group.
Slate kicks off with “Bury the Dead,” Irwin Shaw’s 1936 play about dead soldiers who rise and ask not to be buried. Joe Calarco (“Shakespeare’s R & J”) helms a cast that includes Donna Lynne Champlin (“Sweeney Todd”).
Spring 2009 sees the bow of tuner “Being Audrey,” with songs by Ellen Weiss and book by James Hindman. Plot centers on a woman who avoids real life by seeking refuge in the films of Audrey Hepburn.
Cheryl Stern, who plays the lead role, made additional book and lyric contributions, while helmer and Transport a.d. Jack Cummings III developed the show with Adam R. Perlman.
“Bury the Dead” begins perfs Oct. 31 ahead of a Nov. 9 opening, while “Audrey” starts previews March 27 and opens April 5.
