Sundance sets retreat

Five playwrights, one composer chosen

The Sundance Institute theater program has announced the selection of five playwrights and one composer for its 2008 retreat at the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming. “Jack Goes Boating” playwright Bob Glaudini; lyricist and D.C. legit mainstay Mark Stephen Campbell; and Billy Porter, who developed the all-black Stephen Sondheim tribute “Being Alive,” are among those selected.

Joining them will be Jenny Schwartz and Joseph Thalken, whose work will be produced Off Broadway this year at the Vineyard and Signature Theater, respectively. Rounding out the group is Annie Baker, whose new play, “Body Awareness,” premieres at the Atlantic’s Stage 2 in May.

The Sundance Institute has been part of the developmental process for productions including Doug Wright’s Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner “I Am My Own Wife” and Craig Lucas and Adam Guettel’s musical “The Light in the Piazza.” The retreat begins Monday and runs through Feb. 22.
