A new mini-tuner by Terrence McNally and plays by Eduardo Machado and Keith Reddin are among the shows on the bill for Summer Shorts 2, a second outing for the Off Broadway fest of brief legit works that will play 59E59 Theaters this summer.
McNally’s piece, “Plaisir d’Amour,” with music and lyrics by Skip Kennon, follows the relationship of two people who met 39 years earlier at a Carnegie Hall concert.
It is presented during one of two programs of shorts running in repertory. “Plaisir” shares a bill with John Augustine’s “Peoplespeak,” Michael Domitrovich’s “On Island” and Keith Reddin’s “Our Time Is Up.”
Lineup of the other program includes Machado’s “In Paradise,” about a married couple attempting to reunite after seven years of estrangement. Setlist also includes Leslie Lyles’ “The Waters of March,” Neil Koenigsberg’s “On a Bench” and Roger Hedden’s “Deep in the Hole.”
Machado, Reddin, Domitrovich, Lyles and Augustine all presented pieces during the fest’s first year as well.
“Summer Shorts 2” runs July 31-Aug. 28. J.J. Kandel and John McCormack produce.
