The Signature Theater in Arlington, Va., will mount a revamped production of “Les Miserables” at its intimate 280-seat black box theater in December under special arrangement with producer Cameron Macintosh.
Tuner, directed by Signature a.d. Eric Schaeffer, will run from Dec. 2-Feb. 22 at the Max Theater.
Production will include 30 actors, a 14-piece orchestra and a five-ton steel set (sans turntable) by designer Walt Spangler. Schaeffer said the set will encase the entire theater, where the audience “cannot help but be in Paris, in the barricades, in the tavern.”
Cast from D.C. and New York will include several “Les Miz” Broadway and touring vets including Greg Stone (Jean Valjean), Tom Zemon (Javert) Doug Kreeger (Marius) and Stephanie Waters (Cosette).
Announcement of the run was delayed to protect the touring version of the tuner, which has just completed a 10-day run at nearby Wolf Trap Farm Park.
