Donny and Marie Osmond have inked a deal with the Flamingo Las Vegas, making them Sin City’s newest headliners. Their performance schedule calls for a 26-week, eight-month gig at the center Strip resort starting Sept. 9.
Their 90-minute show, which marks the first time in 29 years that the duo will perform an extended engagement in Vegas, will showcase the Osmonds in a multimedia production and employ a large cast of dancers. It is expected to highlight the Osmond duo’s greatest hits incorporated into a variety show format.
The production will be presented by Danny Gans and Chip Lightman of GansLight Entertainment.
The singing siblings first bowed on the “Donny & Marie” variety show in 1976, becoming the youngest primetime hosts in television history. While conducting successful solo careers, the pair reteamed in 1998 for the syndicated daytime talkshow “Donny & Marie.” Most recently, they jointly hosted NBC’s “Miss USA” pageant from Vegas, and they will co-host “America’s Favorite Mom” on Mother’s Day, also on NBC.
In January, Marie Osmond capitalized on her appearance on “Dancing With the Stars,” inking a deal with Program Partners for a syndie yakker targeted for debut in fall 2009 (Daily Variety, Jan. 30).
Toni Braxton, the Flamingo’s current headliner, is skedded to end her run in August; the show has been on hiatus in recent weeks because of the star’s illness.
