Dorsen, Berger, Gay chosen to helm plays

Annie Dorsen (“Passing Strange”), Jesse Berger (“The Revenger’s Tragedy”) and Jackson Gay (“Len, Asleep in Vinyl”) are among the helmers aboard to direct the plays being developed this summer at the O’Neill Theater Center’s National Playwrights Conference in Waterford, Conn.

Dorsen helms Ann Marie Healy’s play “The Legend of Minnie Willet,” while Berger directs A. Rey Pamatmat’s “Thunder Above, Deeps Below.” Gay takes on the latest by Jason Grote, “Box Americana.”

Conference a.d. Wendy C. Goldberg will direct the new play by Craig Wright, “Mistakes Were Made,” and Daniel Aukin, former a.d. of Soho Rep, helms Rachel Axler’s “Smudge.” Lisa Peterson directs Alex Lewin’s “The Near East,” and Greg Leaming, associate director of the Florida’s Asolo Rep, helms Ursula Rani Sarma’s “Without You.”

Conference, one of the few high-profile developmental programs for new legit works, runs July 3-July 27.
