Christopher Fitzgerald, Rachel Dratch and George Wendt are among the cast of “Minsky’s,” the new tuner that bows at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles early next year.
Fitzgerald (“Young Frankenstein”) plays Depression-era burlesque impresario Billy Minsky, with Katharine Leonard cast as his love interest. Beth Leavel (“The Drowsy Chaperone”), John Cariani (“Fiddler on the Roof”) and Kevin Cahoon (“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”) also appear in the show.
Long-gestating tuner has songs by Charles Strouse (“Bye Bye Birdie,” “Annie”) and lyrics by Susan Birkenhead (“Jelly’s Last Jam”), with a book by Bob Martin, co-creator and star of “Drowsy Chaperone.”
Casey Nicholaw, helmer and choreographer of “Drowsy,” directs and choreographs “Minsky’s.” Design team includes Anna Louizos (sets), Gregg Barnes (costumes), Ken Billington (lights) and Acme Sound Partners (sound).
L.A.’s Center Theater Group produces the show by special arrangement with two commercial Broadway producers attached to the tuner, Bob Boyett (“Monty Python’s Spamalot”) and Kevin McCollum (“Drowsy”).
World preem begins previews Jan. 21 at the Ahmanson before an opening set for Feb. 6.
