McCraney up for Evening Standard

Writer a contender for promising playwright prize

Rising Off Broadway scribe Tarell Alvin McCraney (“Wig Out!”) is one of the contenders for the Evening Standard’s London legit award for most promising playwright.

McCraney, who scored the nod for both “In the Red and Brown Water” and “The Brothers Size,” is in a category that also includes playwrights Bola Agbaje (“Gone Too Far”) and Anupama Chandrasekhar (“Free Outgoing”).

The U.K. paper Evening Standard also released the shortlist for its annual round of stage kudos, narrowing down the candidates from longer lists of nominees released previously. Kenneth Branagh (“Ivanov”) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (“Othello”) are still in the running for the actor trophy, while “Black Watch,” currently playing a return engagement in Gotham, is up for play.
