Australia's National Theater to do 'Little Women'

SYDNEY — Australia’s National Musical Theater Co., the Kookaburra, will bow three tuners in its second season.

They are Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Tell Me on a Sunday”; Allan Knee and Jason Howland’s “Little Women”; and “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” by Joe DiPietro.

“Sunday” will be directed by Peter Ross and star Jolene Anderson in a tour beginning July 29 in Wollongong, 52 miles south of Sydney.

Opera Australia’s Stuart Maunder will direct “Women,” starring Hayden Tee, Trisha Noble and Judy Connelli; it opens Nov. 4 at Sydney’s Seymour Center.

Tee also will star in helmer Darren Yap’s “Change” opposite Katrina Retallick. Tuner premieres April 21, 2009, at the Seymour.

Kookaburra also announced at its 2008-09 season launch on Monday that it has commissioned Peter Rutherford and James Millar to write their second musical. Their tyro effort, “The Hatpin,” is playing at the Seymour.
