Joan Channick leaves Long Wharf

Director joining Yale School of Drama

Joan Channick is ankling her position as managing director of New Haven’s Long Wharf Theater to become associate dean at the Yale School of Drama.

Long Wharf is in the midst of plans with the city and a developer for a $50.5 million theater, which would become part of a larger complex of shops, retail and housing. Channick’s successor would be the fourth exec in seven years at the theater.

Channick said there was no strife with the Long Wharf board but saw the new position as her “ideal job.” James Bundy is the dean of the School of Drama and a.d. of the Yale Repertory Theater.

Channick ends her run at Long Wharf at the end of the month. An interim managing director is expected to be named “in the near future,” according to Mary Pepe, prexy of the theater’s board of directors.

Previously Channick was deputy director of Theater Communications Group, the service organization for American regional theaters.
